Big Holdings, LLC.

Big Idea Holdings is a California-based company providing packaged salads and fresh vegetables to supermarkets and foodservice accounts throughout the United States.  Organic salads and vegetables are marketed under the organicgirl brand while premium conventional produce is sold under NewStar or various private label brands.

Big Idea is led by the same team of senior managers that founded and operated Fresh Express, the original value-added salad company and the category's dominant competitor.  This team of executives grew Fresh Express to over $1 billion in revenues and a market share exceeding 50%.   Following the sale of Fresh Express to Chiquita Brands for $855 million in 2005, they formed the business that became Big Idea Holdings, launching organicgirl in mid-2007.

Organicgirl represents one of the most successful new product launches in the history of organic foods.  In just 18 months, organicgirl achieved shelf presence on more than 5,000 stores, including such leading retailers as Safeway, Wal*Mart and SuperValu, and a share of market approaching 15%.

As a for-profit business, organicgirl feels it has a responsibility to society to minimize its ecological footprint while maximizing the quality product it delivers to its customers.  This involves the implementation of business and farming practices that conserve natural resources and energy, protect the environment and enhance relationships with employees and local communities.   The Company believes in providing a safe, clean, efficient and socially responsible work environment for all employees, paying wages that are competitive and providing health insurance to all employees and supporting community efforts for affordable farm worker housing and health care.
